The Mystery Is Solved...They Were Soda Cans

Nori saw the video on 106 and Park and it's Ashanti's Good Good.

Out of curiosity I asked my mom if she heard about this. Apparently it was done back in the day with anything big...soup cans, vegetable cans...to make hair straighter or have bigger, looser curls. You didn't sleep in it, you set it early in the morning or in the afternoon (for the next day). I guess this was a '50's thing.
Thank you ladies...

There you have it and here it is...

  5. I doubt don't this was the case, as was using strips of brown paper bag for tighter curls, and pin-curling the hair (small sections twisted and wrapped around like a cinnamon roll and held with bobby-pins). I have used both the brown paper bag and pin-curl methods, as my grandmother showed me how.

BTW, look at the video set. It's made up to look like it was back in the 50's (pink flamingos, fancy house dress, hat with his suit, his car, soda-fountain shake, the can opener, small white picket fence, etc.

  8. I don't think i've ever heard of the brown paper bag thing, but my aunt does the curls with bobby pins. She does it every night before bed. She doesn't do tight curls or those shirley temple type curls, but nice lose ones.

  9. The curls are really tight-tight, but more wavy. But I guess that would depend on the length of the hair for both methods.

  10. Yep I used to do the brown paper bag thing. The curls were tight like tw02 said, but they would hold for a few days. I would just pop a little sleep cap on my head and be done. Just fluff my hair the next day and be on my way.

Man the things I used to do to my hair back in the day. LOL
