Are You A Transplant?

This is gonna be pretty much short and sweet.

Are you originally from the city in which you reside?  If not, what prompted your relocation?  Do you regret it?

If you're contemplating relocation, but aren't sure where you want to go, this is a useful little site www.findyourspot.com

My top 5 places according to my responses are as follows:

1.  Norfolk, VA
2.  Baltimore, MD
3.  Chesapeake-Virginia Beach, VA
4.  Charlotte, NC
5.  Greenville, NC

As much as I love Virginia Beach, I don't know that I'd want to live there.  Hurricanes aren't necessarily my cup of tea.

  1. I can see the hospital where I was born from my 2nd floor window.

    I haven't been anywhere I'd wanna call home. I have a lot more to see & do....maybe one day, I'll relocate....maybe not.

I don't wanna go too far north - too cold; too far south - too hot; not close to either coast - too many threats of hurricanes & earthquakes. I guess the Midwest is where I belong. :P

  2. I wouldn't call me a transplant. All I did was move to the suburbs.

  3. I relocated to Upper Marlboro MD from Pittsburgh in 1998. I was looking to make some drastic changes in my life (and did I ever). While I miss some things about Pittsburgh, I do NOT regre t the move.

I'm surprised that Baltimore is on your list... some parts are seriously straight GHETTO HOOD... Sometimes I wonder myself if I made the right decision moving there but I'm there now and committed to five years in one place. at least.

  4. You're right, that's not what I'd call you...

  5. Hell no I aint from Memphis! I only moved here because my wife is from here and all her family is here. If I had it my way, I'd move back to Brooklyn New York. But the cost of living has me spoiled out here.

  6. I'm in Atlanta now but am originally from Chicago. I've lived here before (90-98). Basically, the same reasons that I moved here before are factors for me.

    Better way of life
    Lower cost of living
Convenience (have family here who are able to get my son or keep him if I should have to travel for business)

The inner city of Chicago is really getting ridiculous with violent crimes. To live in far suburbs with my son would be too expensive and I would not have a support base.

  7. Still here in the windy city...born, raised and probably will die here! I want to move so bad. But my mom and sis are here who are my primary help! I do want to escape our harsh winters for a warmer climate and the summer's are getting bad too (they are hell on my allergies!)

  8. No I'm orginally from New York. Lived in the Bronx, then Rockland Cty. New York, (Spring Valley), then Jackson Heights Queens.

I've been in GA for 8 years and love it. It's home, but I would not rule out relocating somewhere else.

What promted me to move? I got tired of NY. I got laid off, the apartment I was renting was about to be sold, could not find a job, looking for a new apartment was going to take moola I did not have, and moving back home with my Mom? I love her, but that was NOT an option.

So I packed up my stuff, and moved to GA. My cousins live here, so I stayed with her for a few months until I got back on my feet. My move inspired another friend to relocate from NY to NC.

  9. I was suprised B-more was on my list too. There were actually 24 places on my list. In no particular order:

    Greensboro, NC
    Los Angeles, CA
    Chapel Hill, NC
    Charleston, WV
    Long Beach, CA
    Alexandria, VA
    Raleigh-Durham, NC (counts as 2)
    Oakland, CA
    Orange County, CA
    Richmond, VA
    Wilmington, NC
    Rocky Mount-Stony Creek, NC

Some of these I've never had a desire to visit, let alone relocate to. I can't lie, I fell in love with Richmond, NC and everything in between.

  12. LOL!!! I think because my selections had to do with my middle size city preference. I gotta get out of Chicago, but I like the appeal of city culture (theater, music, museums, and all) but I'm tired of all the hustle and bustle of this city of 4 MILLION FOLK!

    New Haven, CT
    Providence, RI
    Worcester, MA

  14. DO NOT MOVE TO NORFOLK!!!!!!!!! It really is not the greatest place (Lived there and the job market is horrible) Chesapeake aint much better either....

    ReplyDelete
  15. I can understand that. When you move to a smaller city the atmosphere is so different.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I know so many people who move from NYC to CT. That way they can still go to NYC every now and again.

  17. This is what the system generated for me. I've never been to either place.

Hampton, Virginia City on the Chesapeake
Norfolk, Virginia Heart of the Hampton Roads
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Big City on the Plains
    Nashville, Tennessee Music City, U.S.A.

I feel my time is coming to an end....in OK.

We are looking at moving back to Kansas City or Texas....I kinda looked at North Carolina..but I'm leaning towards moving back home.

  21. I'm a transplant, grew up in the mountains in central California, and moved to the coast. The nice thing about the west coast is even within one state, that is a huge move. BIG difference.

My quiz came up with a lot of Tennessee for some reason. Interesting. Also a lot of Virginia and North Carolina which is funny because I had a friend who tried to get me to move to Durham at one point.

  30. I'd LOVE to live in Hawaii, but it's just too damned expensive!! It makes life on the Coasts look cheap.

My cousin lived there for a year before IBM transferred her to Chicago. I regret I didn't visit her then.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hawaii is nice if you're in the service. Housing is free. lol

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well you didn't scoop me up when you were in the service, so how would I know?

    ReplyDelete
  33. If I had met you back then, we wouldn't be the same people we are today. Who is to say it would have worked out?

  36. Oh ok. I know folks from there who are trying to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I know someone who actually relocated to Hawaii after we finished college. Not sure if she is still there though. She might be. but yeah it's expensive, but looks so beautiful!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Guam is just as beautiful and a helluva lot cheaper. Just thought I'd out that info out there for those who need a vacation.

  40. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, still have a grip of relatives there but after college moved to Houston and pretty much been here every since, staying in the Caribbean for 4 years and Cali for a year and a half, but always came back to Houston, doubt that I will ever leave it.

  41. I graduated from college with a guy who went back to San Juan and became a professional fishing guide. I found him one day when I was looking through tourist information.

  42. I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. Growing up there was fine, but a lot of the city is very different now. I doubt that I will ever live there again. I've been in the Dallas, TXsuburbs for 5 years now. I've enjoyed it here, but I will be moving on soon.

Born in a small assed town no one has heard of, moved to a slightly larger small assed town that no one have heard of, until I moved to Greensboro to attend THE North CArolina Agricultural and Technical State University (AGGIE PRIDE!!!!) I came here, well, at the time mainly for my baby girl but also for love(long story, don't want to get into it, but it worked out in the end lol). There was a time that I regretted it(REALLY regretted it) but through it all I know now that it was the right choice and I'm happy I came. Now to just get the hell back up outta here lol

  46. Are you originally from the city in which you reside? If not, what prompted your relocation? Do you regret it?

I'm originally from Montana, moved to Raleigh, NC in 1998. I came under the guise of school, but honestly I just wanted to get away from Montana and I have no regrets at all.

  48. I am a native Chicagoan and was gone from 1991 (when I graduated high school) to 2006. In between time I lived in Morris Mn, St. Paul MN, Hepzibah Ga, Atlanta Ga, Canton, Mi, back to Atlanta and now back here. I hoped I would never end up back here, but here I am. I may be moving if I can't find a law enforcement job here without all of the politics.
