Did You Ever??

I'm sick of the Obama/Jesse/Bernie thing, sick of dissecting Will and Jada's union and of some of the other stuff we've gone back and forth about the past few days.  And instead of making up another 20 questions, I decided that I'd rather know whether you were a Girl Scout or Boy Scout and if so, what was your most vivid scouting memory?

I started in Brownies and stayed in scouting until I was a Cadet, which I believe was 5th grade.  My most vivid memory was the year I sold so many cookies that I got to go to camp for a week, for free.  That was a big deal to me because my mom didn't let me do many sleepovers and for me to go for a whole week?  Yeah...

I remember the first day my cabinmates asked me if I was gonna go with them for the Polar Swim...SHEEE and IT!!  Go jump in the lake at 6 am?  I'on thank so!

I had a great time though overall and that's when I discovered how much I like canoeing.  I ain't gonna lie though, it'll be a cold, cold day in shuckyduck fo I get in that dirty lake again!

I do believe that I learned quite a few life lessons while earning badges.  A thousand years later, when my boys were old enough, I put them in Cub Scouts and was even a Den Leader and a Popcorn Colonel (how does that end up sounding like Kernel?)  It was a disappointment of sorts because there was one male leader and the rest were women...*shrug* but what can ya do?

Tell me 'bout your experience(s) in scouting.  If you weren't a scout, but wanted to be, why weren't you?

  1. My grandmother wasn't going to let me do ANYTHING that fun that she couldn't fuck up by being there.... Therefore... I was a 4-H'er, and her sister presided over THOSE meetings. There was so much that I wanted to do that she wouldn't let me *pout*

  3. Was never a Girl Scout. My mother wasn't one so it wasn't something she felt was necessary. The United Methodist Church does have a rather large and comprehensive camping program in Maryland and West Virginia, and my grandmother was the Camp Nurse at the MD camp for many many years. Therefore I spent nearly every summer as the Nurse's grandbaby running around the camp, as a camper, a CIT (Counselor in Training), a Counselor, or a summer staffer (washing dishes in the kitchen). I practically grew up at that camp. Who needed scouting? I had unrestricted access to God's Back Yard! *smile*

  5. Never was a girl scout, but I helped my sister sell 'bout a hundred fifty million cookies when she was involved!

And I agree, who gives hell about Will & Jada's supposed open marriage. I think personally ppl are taking the term out of context in that they just tell one another EVERYTHING. But not to get off the subject or anything....

  7. I HATED my piano teacher. She stank to high hell and every time she left the room, I'd hide under the piano and try to play her accordian instead.

  11. I was a boy scout, was actually assistant troop leader. don't really remember much though aside from learning how to tie people up(well, how to tie various knots that I then used to tie people up lol) and learning the sign language alphabet. I've lost a few letters over the years though lol

  12. Never even crossed my mind to become one.

I was just involved with anything that had to do with singing, acting and all the other arts. Took Piano lessons for about 3 years (Hated my SECOND teachers non english speaking ass because she was a mean heffa. Wished I hadn't stopped because I regret it), Sang in Church from the time I was lil, and went to summer camps that had big shows at the end of em'. Even took Karate for a year. That shit ended quick, too.

  19. I was a scout in elementary school. it was fun. the best thing I remember was going to this big flea market-type thing. it was a lot of fun too. Jess was a Brownie for a while, and Paris is in Scouts now. I was so proud to see her come home with about 6-7 badges she earned this year. I'm looking forward to her next scouting year.

I was a bluebird and all of those good things.. I remember camping, wading, fishing, putting up a camp. The one thing I remembered about camping was falling in the water and my hair was messed up..My mom was soooooo mad..LOL. I remember seeing the camp mothers walk around in their bras at camp..That was too much to see. My fondest memory was the annual doll parade inwhich we decorated our red wagons and made dresses for our dolls and walked them in our parade....Oh, can't forget the Christmas parties, singing and performing in the mall.. Going to the senior citizens homes and having old folks curse you out...Yeah those were the days.

  26. I was a girl scout from 2nd grade (brownie for 1 year) - 4th grade. My most vivid memory is....well, actually I have a few. The first was in 4th grade. Back then when we sold cookies, we had to go door to door and I almost got attacked by a pit bull. Then the summer between 4th and 5th, I was at the girl scout camp and being a tomboy, I wasn't afraid of the animals in the woods, etc. we had a scavenger hunt and I remember one of the things we had to do was find a garter snake and bring it back. We found one, but no one wanted to pick it up, so I did and brought it back and remember all the other girls screaming LOL. I stopped going b/c I thought the scouts were for little girls, so stopped that summer
