Are You A Survivor?

Some folks have been blessed enough to have never experienced anything out of the ordinary.  Life has just been the proverbial bowl of cherries for them.

Others of us have survived something, be it natural disaster, health scare(s), physical danger and even war.

What have you survived?  How did it make you feel?

Remember the tornado I blogged about?  Soon as I remember, I'm gonna post the piece I wrote about it.

  1. I survived being taking care of my dying Sister. That's all I'm going to say about that.

I'm also a survivor as far as my business is concerned. That's well documented, so enough about that a well.

  3. Like most people, I have some horrible things and not so horrible on the grand scale of life.

One of the most horrible thngs that could happen to a woman - I let change me into something I didn't recognize or even like for a long time. But it was a lesson I have learned from and have shared with hers, when it was obviously needed for me to share. In hopes to help them not make the same mistakes and/or to keep them from experiencing that themselves.

But like you, I am a survivor! And I believe an overall stronger and better person as a result.

  6. I've survived a catastrophic flood in my hometown.I've survived being stalked twice, i've been blessed to have been able to fight off two would be rapists, I've survived two miscarriages, pre-cancerous cervical cancer and three ovarian cysts and surgeries. And I'm currently living with hypertension.

And through it all.....God has taken care of me and seen me through.

  7. I KNOW I've been blessed. I've been through some hard stuff, and even right now things aren't easy, but I always remember I know people have been through far worse and are still standing strong. People like my Twin, or like Pammye, or any one of the countless victims of violent crimes that I worked with over the years. The girl who was sexually abused by her stepfather from the age of 3 until she found a way to tell somebody at age 17 by burning the initals H.M. into her leg, praying somebody would see it so she could tell them it meant Help ME. The aspiring model, enjoying the moonlight on a beautiful night on the beach who was attacked by two "animals" (they don't deserve to be called men) who slashed her throat from ear to ear and stabbed her repeatedly until she assured them she would die. These women and many others went through things never leave you, but they not only survived but went on to make a difference and help others. They took the power back to make it make them stronger.

Its hard to understand why God allows some things, but I know that I know that I know that He loves us, and there is NOTHING that gets to me that hasn't already passed through His hands, which tells me that He is always there for me and will not only see me through, but He will give me the victory over.

  8. Love the topic my lady. As for me I have been through so many challenges and roads in life and most of it comes to my very own disobedience and there where many times that I did not think that I would make it through and wanted to give up but I thank God for it was Him who got me through.

  10. I have been in so many situations where I know only God brought me across in one piece, it's not even funny. I can't pick just one. But it has always made me feel blessed and thankful for His grace and mercy.

  14. I think when we have things happen to us, we tend to feel alone. We think we are the only ones going through whatever, but there are others who have also experienced something. I think when people find out someone else has been through something that could totally break you down, but it didn't it gives another person strength. It shows that you can still live life despite the bumps in the road.

  17. It's funny when I think about it sometimes but I'm probably a guy who should stay as far away from automobiles as possible.

I've survived being hit by one on a bicycle and walking away with minors scratches and scars hell the ambulance drivers were in shock when the looked at the windshield and then looked at me because I was standing.

I've survived slamming a van into one of those concrete guardrails in the middle of the high way with no seatbelt on(and yes you chest burns like hell when it hits the steering wheel)

I've flipped a car with me in it. I had to crawl out of the back window because the van I was in was half it's original size and none of the doors would work.

I spun out in a rain storm and ripped the wheel off my car in the drainage ditch and all I got where some ant bites on the side of the road.

And I always look back and shake my head because I wonder how the hell I did it. Everybody else hears the stories and looks at me like how am I not dead or at least crippled.

  21. Yeah I just wish I hadn't shit is scary as hell.

But the bike incident is the one that always messes with my head, cause that very same day a friend of mine was in an accident a mile up the road. I was back in summer school the next day, he didn't make it back til february. Only difference in the details I think is that I went over the car(and supposedly made a miraculous landing I blacked out) and he went under it.

  27. I was born with Spina Bifida, so that in itself is a major thing for me to be able to be mobile. Most people born with SB have what's called hydrocephalus, which is basically fluid in the brain. To keep the fluid flowing, you need a shunt. It's just a tube inside the skull. Well, anyway, my shunt got clogged when I was in the 4th grade. The pain is like a migraine on steroids. I've never felt anything like that in my life. So my mother rushed me to the ER. Apparently I got there just in time because the shunt was at the its bursting point and I might not be here.

  29. One Word...Katrina...IF you ever doubt there is a God...or that he made you with strengths you may have yet to know...Ponder what some if not all...are still fighting with almost three years later...

  30. You know, you and Dante have made this even more real to me. Before you two, I didn't know anyone directly affected by Katrina.

  31. first and foremost, *huggin you tight*

I've been through some horrible things in my life. I don't think I have met a woman who has not endured some form of abuse or molestation. I know I have, and live with the aftermath of it every day. I've lived through some things in my childhood that my grandparents and parents didnt have to go through as kids. I think the hardest thing of all for me was not wanting to give up or let hate and anger consume me after my brother was killed. I still have struggles now just with every day living that many people say they couldnt cope with, and I'm STILL HERE.

I'm not the most religious person in the world. hell, I'm not the most religious person in my family, but I believe that something greater is in store for me and that's why I'm still here.

I love you, Sis... you get mad props from me!

  32. Child, you know my stories. Luckily I've never experienced natural disasters. All of mine were man made.

  33. I am a survivor.

So many traumas that I look back and wonder how I've kept my sanity, but there are a couple of biggies. I nearly died after gall bladder removal, reaction to anesthesia, stopped breathing. similar occurrence after anesthesia last yr. Truly blessed to still have my breath. Living with diabetes and high BP today along with a tumor lodged in my chest. I am indeed a survivor.

  35. okay im late as heck but its been a busy day

okay i havent been shy about my story those connected to me know that my heath has been a pain in the ass from the moment i exited my mothers womb but here i am at 22 nearly 23 when doctors said i wouldnt hit age 7. its been tough going through 16 surgeries in 22 years the 1st at only a month old and the pain ive seen since i was about 5 has been nothin nice to endure but ive made it through. yes i still struggle majorly with my health but ive gotten over tha largest speed bump that being the ability to take each day second by second n not letting it all hit me at once allowing it to overwhelm me. but the best part of my story is all the lives ive been able to touch to be able to say my struggle isnt in vain and b able to actually see the good ive done is amazing

  36. I've haven't been through much. For what I've have been through, I think God everyday.

  37. I'm definitely a survivor, mostly with medical junk, which is way too much to itemize here, there is a lot more than just my tumors and migraines, however, most of the *#&@ is caused by the disease that created those tumors, but not all.

  38. I came through yesterday and read all of your stories... and didn't feel qualified to talk about ANYTHING... but I realized that I too, am a survivor.

I managed to hold my wits about me long enough NOT to give into my suicidal thoughts @ 15... I held my husband's hand as we buried his eldest daughter. I fell asleep behind the wheel once with a six year old in the car, and we came out of that without a scratch. I survived my own date rape, as well as my daughter's rape when she was only 10 years old. I survived a near miss on the Interstate on my motorcycle by a careless driver (all my friends were just behind .. how nice they almost got a bird-eye view of my DEATH).

I survived fighting charges that tried to put me behind bars for 15 years for doing what a mother is supposed to do. I survived sending my baby to her father...

And just like all you wonderful ppl -

    STILL, i RISE.

May God bless and keep you all (and those others who read, and have their own testimony but for whatever reason did not share)
