I know I wasn't a perfect child, but my mom whooped my ass when I needed it. My dad hated the disciplinary part, All he had to really do was LOOK at me wrong or raise his voice and I would cry... LOL And I NEVER STOLED NO CAR! *im scared to drive LOL*

ReplyDeleteI know that when I was his age, I knew EXACTLY what the consequences of some foolishness like that would have been. Getting the brakes beat off my ass via belt. MY PARENTS DID NOT PLAY, and my siblings and I were WELL behaved... please believe it.
So when I see this kinda stuff, I gotta wonder what's going on in the home. Is the mama hanging out at the club while this lil fucker gets into hoodrat shit with his blockhead friends, instead of disciplining him and taking him out to the park for some dayum exercise?!

I know he is only 7 and no one would have ever thought to tell him not to take the SUV for a drive... so no one would have ever seen THIS coming, and his attitude is like WHATEVER... someone needs to beat a new way of thinking into him... I wonder how old his mother is... She was nowhere to be found... UGH
He's a good candidate for Maury or Dr. Phil (can't remember which) with those shows where they scare those lil thugettes with putting them in prison for a weekend or something.

First, if grandma has custody, there are problems in that family.
Second, how did he learn how to navigate the vehicle? Children his age should be in the backseat. I have a feeling he's been riding shotgun a lot.
Third, beating him solves nothing. Im actually a big advocate of abstaining from corporal punishment because it is not a guaranteed deterrant for bad behavior. So his grandmother whips him, as she says she wanted to, what then? Is it going to stop him from doing it again? Is it going to stop him from growing up and becoming a thug? The only thing we are sure of is that it does is give her a vehicle to take out her anger towards him, and that isnt healthy. She is the grandmother which means her child, male or female, bore him and if she couldnt raise her own child to be a responsible adult, what makes us think she hasnt had a hand in why this 7 year old is the way he is? Look at him! Obviously she doesnt care about his health at all...
Finally, pressing charges against a 7 year old is counterproductive. As they said, he is too young for any juvenile detention center. He needs counseling and they need a family caseworker assigned to them. There are major issues going on that the state needs to monitor. But giving a 7 year old Black boy a record before he even turns 10 is NOT something any of us should want to see.
Do we think they'd be as quick to charge little 7 year old white Timmy from the burbs with GRAND THEFT AUTO because of his "joyride"? Seriously?
All of yall that want to beat his ass, what exactly will beating his ass do? Reading your comments, you're speaking out of your own anger, not necessarily with any focus beyond this situation.
Yeah what he did was wrong and he should receive punishment, but I shudder at the idea that "beating it into him" is the best way to go about it.

ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that I never got 2 beatings for the same offense. I learned consequenses early. I instilled it in RJ too. Luckily, after that pop on the hand when he was 3, he hasn't done anything.

ReplyDeleteBut everyone who sits in jail it's not a result of having received spankings. People I knew who ended up in jail growing it's because they did NOT receive spankings. It's because their parents did not give them that guidance, and that rearing. In some cases they did and well they made dumb choices regardless.
I was spanked as a child, and have never seen the inside of a jail. My siblings were also spanked. But my mother spanked to make sure what she said was enforced. She never spanked to hurt us where we had marks etc. But you best better believe after being spanked the offense we did was NOT done again.
My mother also punished us. No phone privileges, no tv, so going outside, all fun things removed from the room.
I look at you Danja you give me the impression when you tell your son NOT to do something it's in that voice of authority, so he knows OOOPPPSSS I messed up let me stop.
Some parents do not do that. They say stop, then get frustrated and say forget it because they can't deal.
I'm not going to lie, heck yeah my car is wrecked I would be very upset. Who wouldn't? I would send his little butt to his room, to calm down a little, then he would receive his punishment.
I know everyone is not for corporal punishment. But I just have those old school rearing in me, he would be whopped!! After 3- 4 hours.

The fact that people can end up in jail, on drugs, etc regardless of whether or not they were physically disciplined shows that there is no guarantee it will work. It can go either way. Each child/person is different and responds differently to different forms of punishment.
I was beaten/spanked/whipped whatever u want to call it and it did little to shape my behavior. I still did what I wanted, if I chose to, because I didnt fear being beaten. A beating was like, so what? you hit me, it hurt for a few minutes, now what? I'm supposed to respect you now? Cuz you resort to violence to get your point across? Yeah, right...
I didnt go out the next day and think "hmmm lemme not do this so i dont get beat". When I made certain choices it was because I was taught right from wrong and the best lessons were those unacommpanied by a belt. My dad NEVER laid a finger on me, and to this day, I say I respected him more than I ever respected my mother. I resented my mother for a long time for her thinking that she had to hit me to discipline me or to punish me. I thought then, and still think now, it is not the best course of action for a child. Luckily for the next generation of children, more and more parents are moving away from inflicting physical pain on their children, and are focusing on developing good behavioral patterns and teaching kids in other ways than raising welts and turning butts red. Violence, in many cases, begets violence and I dont want to take that chance with my kid, yanno?
I respect the choices people make for their own children, this is just my personal opinion.

my mom and dad both spanked. Yeah it upset me at first but when I look back on it now that I'm older I understand why they did as crazy as it sounds.
