Do You Know What A Cake Walk Is?

First of all, let me start by saying I've posted so much stuff today, I feel like my name should be Redeyewire...

Now...my son had a winter festival at school a couple of weeks ago and I mentioned to a friend that the cupcakes my son won at the cakewalk also yielded me a pretty good cake pan.  I didn't understand why someone would send items to the school in a real pan with no identification attached to it.

My friend asked, what the hell is a cake walk?

*enter Scooby "errruh?" here*

What is a cake walk? Are you serious?

So I explained it to him.  A few days later I was telling another friend about that conversation and she didn't know what I was talking about either. So now I'm wondering if cake walks are just unique to my area, I'm extra nerdy for going to the fall/winter festivals at school since grade school or just what is going on.

Do you know what a cake walk is?

  4. Yup, I realized I left ya'll hanging, lol.

The concept of a cake walk is very similar to musical chairs. You walk around to music playing, except there are numbered or colored pieces of paper on the floor in a circle. When the music starts, everyone walks around in the circle and when it stops, each person must stand alone on their piece of paper.

Then either a number is drawn from a hat, bowl, etc. or a spinner is used with all of the numbers on it and the person standing on the corresponding number/color wins a cake (or cupcakes or whatever kind of treats were prepared).

  6. HA! Who the heck knew? LOl I didn't know that "cake walks" were actual events! LOl

I've only heard someone say it in slang. In slang, it means "a simple task" In essence, you would say something like "Getting his phone number was easy...shoot...it was a cakewalk!" LOL

  17. I never heard of a cake walk until last week when I was watching the King of Queens! They had one! LOL!

Oh, wait...I just read your description. It was a little different on the show. All of the cakes that were baked are placed on a table. The parents/adults walk around the table until the music stops. The cake you are standing in front of is the cake you have to buy.

    They probably made that up!
