Advice Please
I'm considering satellite radio. Who has it and why is your brand the best choice? What is the cost/maintenance?
I've got Sirius. I absolutely love it. The transponder/receiver was a gift.... I have a Sirius Sportster Replay (which means as long as I don't change the channel I can rewind up to 45 minutes - which is nice because when the ol-skool hip hop channel gets on a roll I frequently rewind).
I have XM at home because of my subscription to DirecTV but honestly I don't listen to it much. You should ask Darryl cause he does the XM more than I do, and he has Sirius in the car.
Sirius is celebrity-heavy. Jamie Foxx has his own channel... Eminem owns a channel.. I don't mess with Stern but there's a Playboy channel, Candice Bushnell (the original writer of the book Sex & The City) has a show... lots of great programming.
At one point I believe they were running a special that if you paid for three years' worth of subscriptions at one time you earned a "lifetime" subscription -- but considering that there may be a merger between Sirius and XM I was a little nervous about going that route.
I pay for my subscription on an annual basis (actually it's an auto-debit every January) and don't even worry about it. It's really nice to go on long road trips and not have to worry about finding new stations outside your home area. Sometimes you have to change the station to find a non-fuzzy channel through which to receive your satellite signal.. but that's about it.
You also lose signal anytime the path to the receiver mounted on your car is obstructed (going under overpasses and through most tunnels - even when you wouldn't lose regular radio reception.)
Hope I've been helpful.
www.sirius.com - you can go peep out the packages and rate plans. (I don't want to go over there cause I'll be pricing a unit so that I can play that joker in the house and REALLY annoy the shit out of my neighbors... HAHHAAHHAHA)
When I tell you I do not listen to terrestrial radio at ALL anymore? I'm not kidding... I got tired a long time ago of the same boring shit on the three major stations we have here and let's not even get on the drive time drivel... (I'm not a fan of either Steve Harvey OR Tom Joiner)... it's refreshing, and plus I get lots of ideas to add stuff to my Zen.
The receivers allow you to preprogram channels, and I have Backspin (ole skool hip-hop), Shade 45 (that's Eminem's channel, hardcore current rap/hip-hop) Hot Jamz (channel 50, that's current top R&B/hip-hop,) Heart & Soul (no rap- mostly slower jamz), the old school R&B channel (don't remember the name), Traffic for DC/Baltimore, Jazz Cafe, Foxxhole (Jamie Foxx) and Octane (hard rock - yes, I'm a metal head... LOL)
Well we have one little station in range and it's from a town smaller than ours. They switched from Tom Joyner in the a.m. and Michael Baisden in the p.m. to Steve Harvey in the a.m. and Doug and Dee Dee in the p.m. and I ain't real impressed.
I know this is off subject but I don't care for Steve Harvey NOR Tom Joyner! I am so tired of hearing the same songs OVER and OVER and OVER and these LAME AZZ JOKES...
If i were still living in Pittsburgh I would have gone to satellite a LONG time before - there's only ONE black station there and the reception on it is some BULLSHIT!
Off topic reply: I happen to like both shows. I don't listen everyday because I'm usually jammin' my own tunes (maybe that's why). I keep my MP3 player in my purse. I have a CD player on my desk & I have headphones on my PC.
I have Delphi (XM Satellite radio) but I cancelled the subscription after my brother stopped paying for it. The ONLY reason I haven't resubscribed is because I get a lot of Itunes and I have XM on DirectTV. (although I do miss the 80s channel and the comedy channel...)
Sorry hun,,, don't even really do radio...

Oh .. NOOOOO commercials either... except for their own tiny little fun sketch style advertisements.
